The holidays are an expensive time of year for everyone, and it’s always nice to find some holiday energy savings to stay on budget. You can put money back in your pocket by employing a few of these simple tips to save on electricity. Don’t let high energy costs ruin your happy holidays.

Holiday Cooking
Holiday Energy Savings Checklist: Some Tips You May Not Have Thought Of
To reduce the cost of appliance energy drain during the holidays, look into purchasing Energy Star labeled appliances to replace old-fashioned toasters, microwaves or other appliances. Also, use the microwave as much as possible when cooking as it will consume less energy than the stove or oven. When using the oven, be aware that the more you open the door to check on food, the more heat will be lost. This energy loss can really add up.

Energy Saving Decorations

Get rid of those old, tangled-up Christmas lights and invest in some LED decorations this year. These lights last much longer and consume much less energy than incandescent bulbs. Not only that, because LED lights do not produce much heat, they are safer than traditional Christmas lights and will help reduce the risk of fire. Use candles to illuminate your living room and window sills, while your Christmas tree will often produce just the right amount of light to give your living room a soft, comforting glow. Just don’t leave candles untended.

Get a Battery Charger

A large number of gifts exchanged every year require batteries to operate. Batteries can be expensive to replace over and over, so purchase a battery charger to recycle old batteries. This holiday energy savings tip will save you cash all year long.
